Mauch Fires Two as No.12 Women's Soccer Beats Out Drury

Bearcats remain unbeaten during league battle

LEBANON, Ill. - No.12 McKendree University women's soccer (12-0-3, 8-0-2 GLVC) put up three goals on Sunday afternoon, defeating Drury on a 3-1 count at Leemon Field. The Bearcats continued their unbeaten status going into the final week of regular season play. McKendree will be back on the pitch against Maryville on Friday, October 21 at 5 PM to end its home slate for the regular season and will close out the regular season on Sunday, October 23 at UMSL at 12 PM.

McKendree and Drury looked at a defensive bout when the two programs entered the weekend but the Bearcats changed the look early in the first half. The first 15 minutes featured a back-and-forth contest with both teams controlling certain areas of the game and pitch but the Bearcats then struck first.

Bearcat junior midfielder Reagan Mauch connected on a ball in the 15th minute which bounced in the six-yard box of Drury, firing it to the back of the net. The first goal followed a corner kick by senior midfielder Elizabeth Goldstein, which bounced out to redshirt senior defender Kathleen Kenny, who sent a long shot toward the goal. Kenny's shot was deflected and ended in front of Mauch, who scored her then-second of the year.

McKendree went up 2-0 during the latter period of the first half with a 35th-minute score by junior forward Anna Stiffler (11). Stiffler moved into the attacking third of the field via an attempted through-ball by the Bearcats. She gathered the ball and fired a shot from the top of the 18, which bounced awkwardly into the goal.

The hosting-Bearcats held a 2-0 advantage into the intermission time.

McKendree kept going at the Panthers in the second 45 of action with five of its shots coming in the period. The Bearcats then went up 3-0 with another goal by Mauch in the 74th minute, which came off a deep ball by sophomore defender Maria Voss

Drury fired one goal in the 87th minute, which cut the lead to just a pair but the McKendree defense held true.

Senior keeper Abby Tucker added another win to her season with a pair of saves in the contest.
