LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer (5-4-5, 3-3-4 GLVC) picked up one point on Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Drury, maintaining the number seven position in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats struck first in the outing but was unable to grab the win over the visiting-Panthers. McKendree will be back on the pitch on Friday, October 21 at 7:30 PM against the league-leader in Maryville.
McKendree came into the contest looking to snap a two-game skid with a goal to earn points for the conference standings. The Bearcats came out attacking strong with eight shots in the first half. McKendree then struck early with a goal in the 5th minute of action by freshman sforward
Stephan Stuebbe. Stuebbe received a cross from fellow freshman forward
Dayton Strattman, which was tapped by the keeper but out of reach, as the freshman Stuebbe fired into the net (4:45)
The Panthers struck back in the 23rd minute of the game, tying it at one goal a piece.
The game remained tied at 1-1 going into the halftime intermission.
McKendree and Drury continued a battle throughout the second half with a defense battle ensuing in the 45 minutes of play. Just three shots were fired in the second half as the game ended in a draw.
