LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer (4-2-4, 2-1-3) played to a fourth draw on the season, tying William Jewell, 2-2, on Sunday afternoon. Freshman forward
Stephan Stuebbe scored his fifth and sixth goals of the year, which leads the Bearcats. McKendree remains unbeaten over the last five games, drawing three and winning two. The Bearcats will be back in action on October 7 and 9 at Southwest Baptist and Rokchurst.
McKendree struck first in the outing with Stuebbe scoring in the 14th minute of play behind a lengthy pass up field from senior forward
Tony Bodul. Bodul's pass dropped ahead of the Cardinals' defenders, where Stuebbe collected and easily fired it into the back of the net.
William Jewell scored the next two goals, just under four minutes apart with the first in teh 27th minute and the second in the 30th. The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead into the halftime intermission.
Less than one minute into the second half, McKendree found the back of the net with another score by Stuebbe. The freshman's second goal came from a second deep pass up field by Bodul.
The two sides battled through the rest of the game but neither was able to find the back of the goal to take a lead and the game.
McKendree out-shot the Cardinals 22 to seven with 14 on-frame. The Bearcats also earned six corner kicks to WJC's one.
NOTES
Stephan Stuebbe fired two goals, raising his total to six this fall. He ranks second in the GLVC in both goals (6) and goals per game (0.60).
Philipp Schmidt owns six assists this fall, which is tied for best in the league and leads the league in per-game average at 0.60.
