LEBANON, Ill. - No.12 McKendree University women's soccer (9-0-2, 5-0-1) fired four goals on Sunday afternoon, defeating William Jewell, 4-0. The Bearcats earned an ninth-straight win over the Cardinals in the effort while extending its unbeaten streak to 11 games to open the 2022 campaign. Senior midfielder
Allison Frederking fired the game-winner, her second of the season, off a long corner kick by senior midfielder
Elizabeth Goldstein. The Bearcats will be back on the road next weekend, at Southwest Baptist on October 7 and at Rockhurst on October 9.
McKendree waited nearly no time in scoring its first and game-winning goal, earning a corner just over 30 seconds into the game. The corner was taken by Goldstein, who dropped a long ball into the box, which Frederking connected with to put the Bearcats up, 1-0, just 46 second into the contest. The goal was Frederking's third of the season while being Goldstein's second assist.
In the 32nd minute of the game, sophomore forward
Lena Higgins was fouled in the box during a Bearcats' thrown-in, earning a penalty kick for the host. The PK was taken by Goldstein, who fired it to the left side and into the back of the net. McKendree finished out the half up 2-0 over the Cardinals.
In the second half of action, the No.12 Bearcats added more insurance scores with junior forward firing her eighth goal of the season in the 62nd minute of the contest. Stiffler connected on a ball was tapped to her by freshman midfielder
Rosa Caird, which made it 3-0 in favor of the host. The final score of the day came from sophomore forward
Natalie Gum, who recovered a shot rebound from Caird, scoring her first of the fall. It put McKendree up 4-0 over William Jewell.
Senior
Abby Tucker put up another shutout this fall, improving to 9-0-2 in net while lowering her goals allowed average to 0.47.
The Bearcats out-shot the Cardinals 31 to four while firing 18 of their shots on-frame.
NOTES
McKendree extended its season-opening unbeaten streak to 11 games while winning it fourth-straight contest.
Anna Stiffler fired her eighth goal against WJC, marking four-straight games with a goal. She leads the league with eight goals (0.73 per game) and 16 total points (1.45 per game).
Allison Frederking scored her third of the year, which was also her second game winner.
Elizabeth Goldstein assisted on and scored a goal in the outing. She dished-out the game-winning assist to Frederking while firing the PK goal in the 32nd Minute.
Abby Tucker earned her sixth shutout on the season while collecting her third-straight.
