No.13 Women's Soccer Draws at UMSL; Earns No.2 Seed in GLVC Tournament

Bearcats complete first unbeaten regular season in the process

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - No.13 McKendree University women's soccer (12-0-5, 8-0-4 GLVC) concluded its regular season with a draw at Missouri-St. Louis (5-6-5, 3-4-5 GLVC), 2-2, which placed the Bearcats as the number two seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. McKendree also completed an outstanding program feat as the 2022 Bearcats finished the regular season undefeated at 12-0-5, marking the first time the program has gone unbeaten in regular season play. The Bearcats will be back at home for the GLVC Quarterfinal matchup against Indianapolis on October 30 at 12 PM.

McKendree sought a win to hopefully position them to win the GLVC's regular season title for the fifth-straight season but needed help from across the league to do so. With the one point via the tie against the Tritons, McKendree solidified its number two seed. Rockhurst claimed the regular season title with a victory over Quincy on Sunday afternoon.

The Bearcats struck early in the 11th minute behind a header from senior defender Morgan Bova, who connected with senior midfielder Elizabeth Goldstein's corner kick cross. McKendree held the 1-0 advantage with the Bova score for nearly 30 more minutes. The Tritons managed to strike back in the 39th minute with a goal, tying the contest at one goal each.

In the second half, UMSL fired a game-leading score in minute 64. The Tritons led 2-1 for just over 15 minutes. McKendree fought hard to come back with an 80th minute score by junior forward Anna Stiffler, who corralled a ball off a header by senior forward Morgan Cervera, heading it into the net.

The game ended knotted up at 2-2.

The tie allowed UMSL into the postseason tournament as the eight seed while the Bearcats maintained their second-seed. McKendree finished the year with 28 points behind top-seeded Rockhurst, who owns 31 on the year.
