LEBANON, Ill. – Following the conclusion of the 2022 CWPA Division II Championships, McKendree University men's water polo team had two players named to the eight-player CWPA Division II Eastern Championships All-Tournament Team.
The Bearcats named the All-Tournament Team were graduate student attacker
Josh Carlson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) and junior center/utility player
Breno Tebet (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Golden West College).
At the championships, the Bearcats went 1-2 as they suffered a 17-15 loss to Salem (W.Va.) University, a 13-12 loss to Gannon (Pa.) University and picked up a 13-6 win over Mercyhurst to conclude the event.
Carlson earns his spot on the All-Tournament Team after leading the Bearcats in goals with nine in three games and added one assist. He opened with a four goal showing against Salem, before scoring three goals against Gannon and tallying two goals against Mercyhurst.
Tebet earned his spot on the All-Tournament Team after scoring five goals and having one assist in McKendree's three games. After failing to score a goal against Salem, he scored two goals against Gannon and then had three and an assist against Mercyhurst.
Carlson and Tebet were joined on the All-Tournament Team by Salem goalie Julen Alonso, Salem's Nikola Krstonosic, Salem's Marko Zivojinovic, Gannon's Alex Kotskar, Gannon's Vlad Mickic and Gannon's Drago Marjanovic.
Krstonosic was named the Most Valuable Player after leading Salem to the championship, while Zivojinovic was named the Rookie of the Tournament and Salem's Rob Bullon was named the Outstanding Coach of the Tournament.
The Bearcats varsity team will return to action on Nov. 5-6 as they host an MAWPC Conference Crossover Weekend event at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool. The Bearcat will open on Nov. 5 against Gannon at 2:30 p.m., before facing Mercyhurst on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and then concludes on Nov. 6 at 10:30 a.m. against Salem University.
