Men's Soccer Travels West for Bouts with SBU, Rockhurst

Bearcats enter final half of GLVC slate over weekend

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer (4-2-4, 2-1-3 GLVC) is on the road to begin the second half of the Great Lakes Valley Conference slate with western Missouri matchups at Southwest Baptist and Rockhurst. McKendree went 1-0-1 in its most recent weekend and will look to gain ground in the conference standings. McKendree will take on SBU at 1 PM on Friday, October 7, and Rockhurst at 2:30 PM on Sunday, October 9.

THIS SEASON
McKendree earned four points last weekend, beating Truman State, 2-1, and drawing with Jewell, 2-2, and sit 2-1-3 in the league. The Bearcats sit tied for sixth in the GLVC standings with three weekends remaining in the regular season. 

The attack has been led by a fleet of freshman as forward Stephan Stuebbe owns six goals (12 points) while forward Dayton Strattman and midfielder Gabe Hallsten each have fired two goals. Sophomore midfielder Philipp Schmidt has been instrumental in facilitation of the offense as he owns six assists on 13 McKendree goals in the campaign.

The net has been held down by two keepers in freshman Matt King and sophomore Anthony Swenson through the year. The pair has allowed just nine goals in 10 games with 26 saves and a goals allowed average of 0.90.

The Bearcats of SBU sit at 0-6 in the league, dropping its latest contests to Missouri S&T, 1-0, and UMSL, 3-1. SBU has been outscored 31 to 10 this fall, averaging one goal per game while shooting .415 on-frame. Ignacio Masalli leads the offense with three goals while Titouan Fraslin has fired two. In goal, two keepers have started this season with Willy Lusansu playing/starting four games while Dawson Sozio has held net for six. The two own a 3.10 goals allowed average with 56 saves.

The Hawks of Rockhurst sit second in the GLVC this year, dropping just one game to current league leader, Maryville. The Hawks have handled opposing offenses with just three goals allowed (0.33 per game) while firing 1.78 per outing (16 total). Kaden Cripe leads the attack with nine points behind four goals and one assist while Jordan Andrews has fired two goals, ranking second on the Hawks. The pair mark two of 12 total goal-scorers for Rockhurst on the year. In the net has been Andrea Dorella, playing all 810 minutes with 34 saves and just three scores allowed. He holds a 0.919 save percentage with six shut-outs.
