Men's Water Polo Concludes Morgantown Conference Crossover Weekend With Setback to Navy

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The McKendree University men's water polo team concluded play here Sunday in the MAWPC Conference Crossover weekend at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center with a 16-9 setback to Navy.
 
For the weekend, the Bearcats, who are now 2-14 overall and 0-7 in the MAWPC, lost all three of its games as they fell on Saturday to both 18th-ranked Fordham and Wagner.
 
Against Navy, the Midshipmen led 4-2 after the first period, but both teams scored three times in the second period to give Navy a 7-5 lead at the half.
 
Navy outscored the Bearcats, 4-3 in the third period to lead 11-8 heading into the final period, but Navy would score five of the six goals in the fourth period to post the seven goal win.
 
Junior center/utility player Breno Tebet (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Golden West College) and freshman center/utility player Cale Koester (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) each scored two goals in Sunday's game.
 
The other Bearcat goals were scored by sophomore attacker Jespyn Bishop (Brighton, Colo./Brighton), graduate student attacker Josh Carlson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West), sophomore attacker Schuyler Cramer (Thornton, Colo./Thornton), senior center defender Connor Pulido (Chicago Ridge, Ill./Richards) and fifth-year senior Nico Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia/Oviedo).
 
In addition to their goals, Cramer and Rodriguez each had two assists, while Carlson and freshman attacker Justice Lamboy (Santee, Calif./West Hills) also each had an assist.
 
The Bearcats collected nine steals in the game as Carlson and Bishop each had two steals, while Rodriguez, Tebet, freshman attacker Quinten Gallagher (St. Louis, Mo./CBC), sophomore center defender Alex Napawan (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) and junior goalie Jimmy Cronin (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) each tallied a steal.
 
Cronin played all 32 minutes in net for the Bearcats as he made nine saves and added that steal.
 
The Bearcats, who have played the last four weekends in a row, will now take a weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 22-23 as they compete at the CWPA Division II Championships, which will be held in Erie, Pa., at the Hallman Aquatic Center. At the event, the Bearcats will open on Oct. 22 against Salem University at 11:40 a.m. ET and Gannon University at 7:40 p.m. ET and will then face Mercyhurst on Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. ET.
 
While the men's varsity team will be off next weekend, McKendree's men's club water polo team will host the Missouri Valley Division Championship next weekend (Oct. 15-16) at the McKendree Rec Plex Pool in O'Fallon, Ill.
