No.17/2-Seed Women's Soccer To Face 3-Seed Saints in Semis; Hold No.4 in Regional Ranking

LEBANON, Ill. - No.17 and second seeded McKendree University women's soccer (13-0-5, 8-0-4 GLVC) hosts the remainder of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, which begins Friday evening with a matchup between the Bearcats and third-seeded Maryville at 5PM on Leemon Field. The Bearcats look to reclaim the GLVC Tournament title after winning it in the 2020-21 season while they won the 2021 GLVC regular season title. McKendree will also look to move up in the NCAA DII Midwest Regional rankings with more victories prior to the national tournament as they remained fourth in the latest regional poll, released on Wednesday, November 2 (link).

McKendree enters the semifinal round after defeating UIndy in its GLVC quarterfinal matchup on October 30, 2-1. The 17th-ranked Bearcats continued their historic undefeated season with the victory over the Greyhounds, as the unbeaten regular season marked the first in program history (established 1996). 

On Thursday afternoon, November 3, the GLVC released its all-conference honors, featuring six Bearcats which included three first team selections, one second team, and two third team honorees. Junior forward Anna Stiffler headlined the honorees as she was named unanimous first team while also be selected as the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year. It marked her third All-GLVC selection and second first team award. Senior defender Morgan Bova and senior midfielder Allison Frederking were the other two first team selections while senior goalkeeper was named to the second team and midfielding senior Elizabeth Goldstein and junior Reagan Mauch both earned a spot on the third team. McKendree's offense and defense have been equally outstanding this season, outscoring opponents 33 to 10. Stiffler has led the offense with 13 goals while 11 different players have recorded at least one goal. 18 Bearcats have recorded a point by either assist or goal during the 2022 fall season as well. Four Bearcats follow Stiffler with three goals a piece as junior forward Destiny Johnson, senior midfielders Elizabeth Goldstein and Allison Frederking, and junior midfielder Reagan Mauch, each have fired three scores on the year. The net has been held by All-GLVC second team member Abby Tucker, who owns 18 starts with a save percentage of 0.792, a goals allowed average of 0.57, 38 saves, and nine shutouts. 

PREVIEW vs #3-Seed MARYVILLE
The Saints ended the season as the second unbeaten team in conference play, going 6-0-6, drawing with the Bearcats to end their regular season. Maryville currently sits sixth in the regional rankings, looking to secure a spot in the postseason national tournament. The Saints have played in similar fashion to McKendree with a strong defense and an aggressive offense, outscoring opponents 28 to 8. Ashlyne Hunt has led the Maryville attack with seven goals for 14 points while Lexi Gentry owns 13 points with five goals and three assists. 20 Saints have earned a point while 11 have fired a goal during the 2022 campaign. In the net for Maryville has been Katie Nash, who was named All-GLVC first team and owns over 1500 minutes in goal with a goals allowed average of 0.48 with a save percentage of 0.855. Maryville grabbed five All-GLVC spots with three first team selections.

Last time out, the Bearcats and Saints drew at Leemon Field, 1-1.

No.17 McKendree women's soccer will be competing in the semifinal round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday, November 4, at Leemon Field against Maryville. The game is slated to kickoff at 5 PM.

GLVC TOURNAMENT - CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
No.17 / #2-Seed McKendree women's soccer will be back in action on Friday, November 4, at 5 PM against the #3-Seed Maryville at Leemon Field. The Bearcats remained as the highest seed following the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament and received hosting duties with their quarterfinal victory. Leemon Field in Lebanon, Illinois will play as the host for the semifinal and final rounds of the GLVC women's soccer tournament.
