INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The McKendree men's golf team is ranked third in the initial NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings that were recently released by the NCAA.
McKendree sits behind No. 1 Findlay and No. 2 University of Indianapolis in the initial regional rankings for the 2021-22 season. McKendee is one of four schools from the Great Lakes Valley Conference ranked in the initial Midwest Regional ranking as along with UIndy at No. 2 and McKendree at No. 3, Southern Indiana is ranked fourth and UMSL is ranked sixth.
During the fall season, the Bearcats won their final three tournaments as they took home the team titles at the Midwest Regional hosted by UMSL, won first place honors at its own Bearcat Dual Gender and then captured the team title at the Kentucky Wesleyan Fall Invitational. It is the first time in school history that McKendree had won three consecutive tournaments at the NCAA Division II level.
Along with winning three tournament titles during the fall season, the Bearcats also had two different golfers captured medalist honors at two events each as junior
Phasin Vichitcharoenpaisarn (Bangkok, Thailand/The American School of Bangkok) was the individual medalist at both the Flyer Intercollegiate hosted by Lewis University and held at Cog Hill Golf Club and then took home medalist honors at the Midwest Regional held at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo., while freshman
Fabian Wennerlof (Onsala, Sweden/Katrinelundgymnasiet) took home first place honors at both the Bearcat Dual Gender held at Fair Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville, Ill., and then at the Kentucky Wesleyan Fall Invitational at the Pearl Club in Owensboro, Ky.
Along with ranked in the initial NCAA Midwest Regional rankings, the Bearcats are currently ranked 39th in the latest Golfstat.com Division II team rankings, while Wennerlof is the No. 115th ranked men's golfer in Division II.
The Bearcats are scheduled to open its spring tournament slate on March 7-8 as they compete at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Winona State University and held at Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
