Men's Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Sweep Over Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. - McKendree University men's volleyball improved to 5-4 overall on the season and 2-1 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play after posting a 3-0 win over Quincy on Wednesday night at the Pepsi Arena.

The Bearcats posted set wins of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-17 over the Hawks for their 12th straight win over Quincy. 

The Bearcats recorded their second highest hitting percentage this season as they hit .423 against the Hawks. The top hitting percentage for the Bearcats was .468 on Jan. 28 at King. The Hawks hit .147 for the match. 

Offensively, the Bearcats had four players record five or more kills led by graduate student outside hitter Ethan Carroll (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) as he recorded 12 kills. Redshirt senior outside hitter Brendon Dunn (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame) recorded eight kills. Redshirt senior middle blocker Tommy McGrath (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) and freshman outside hitter Kevin Schuele (Aurora, Ill./Saint Francis) added five kills apiece. Schuele also added four serve aces while Quincy had two serve aces as a team. McGrath and Carroll both added one serve ace in the win. Carroll recorded a .478 hitting percentage while McGrath hit .833 and Dunn hit .533. 

Defensively, the Bearcats had four players' record six or more digs in the match. Redshirt senior setter Ryan Serrano (Phoenix, Ariz./Boulder Creek) led the way with 10 digs while adding 30 assists. Dunn added seven digs, while Schuele and senior libero Francisco Comas (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added six digs each. The Bearcats also recorded six total team blocks while the Hawks had zero blocks. 

Quincy falls to 3-6 on the season and 0-3 in MIVA play. Nathan Lawton had a game-high 15 kills in the match. Bryce Jones recorded a game-high 32 assists and Michal Podgorzak had nine digs. 

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. at Hyland Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. as the Bearcats matchup against the Lions.
