ERIE, Pa. – McKendree University women's lacrosse opened play here Saturday in the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational by posting two wins at the Hagerty Event Center – Hallman Aquatics Center on the campus of Mercyhurst University.
With the two wins, McKendree improves to 3-0 on the season and concludes play in the tow-day event on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. ET against Villanova University.
The Bearcats opened the Robinette Invitational with a 28-5 win over Penn State Behrend and then earned a 12-9 win over Mount St. Mary's.
In the win over Penn State Behrend (0-2), the Bearcats took 37 shots and opened the game by scoring 17 goals in the first two periods to lead 17-3 at the halftime. The 28 goals are a season high for the Bearcats.
Freshman center
Sofia Dominguez (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) paced the way offensively with five goals and an assist for six points, while senior center
Abigail Burton (Chino, Calif./Chino) added four goals and two assists for six points and sophomore attacker
Jasmin Guzman (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) had four assists and two goals for six points.
Other Bearcats to score multiple goals were freshman
Hailey Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland), junior center/utility
Katelyn Rodrigue (Brentwood, Calif./Heritage), junior attacker
Nicky Rafalo (Chicago, Ill./Maine South) and senior attacker
Carley Manuel (Lantana, Texas/Guyer) each had two goals, while junior attacker
Courtney Smith (Stockton, Calif./Sonoma State), graduate student
Jaleh Moaddeli (Newport Beach, Calif./GWU) had three goals each.
McKendree scored 10 goals in the first period and then scored seven goals each in the second and third periods, while tallying four goals in final period.
PSUB finished with 19 shots and got two goals and two assists from Samantha Darrell. Brooklyn Moony, Marley Persch and Olivia Wright each had a goal in the loss.
Sophomore goalie
Rio Tomlinson (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and sophomore goalie
Kaitlyn Kasper (Thomasville, Ga./Thomasville) each played in goal for the Bearcats as Tomlinson played 24 minutes and allowed four goals and made eight saves, while Kasper played eight minutes and made two saves, while allowing a goal.
Meanwhile, in the second contest of the day against Mount St. Mary's, the Bearcats would outscore the Emmitsburgers, 6-4, in the second half to post the victory. McKendree led 6-5 at the half.
While complete stats weren't available from the game, but Moaddeli led the way with four goals and one assist for five points. With her four goals, Moaddeli has now scored 15 goals in three games this season.
Rebecca Valentine led Mount St. Mary's with six goals.
Freshman
Sydney Kane (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) played in goal for the Bearcats and allowed nine goals and made eight saves.
