LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's volleyball opens there three match home stand by hosting Maryville on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
The Bearcats enter the match 2-3 on the season after winning two of their last three matches by picking up 3-0 wins against Central State and King.
The Bearcats are led offensively by graduate students outside hitters Patrick Ross (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek) and Ethan Carroll (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) in which they are the only players with 50 or more kills and 30 or more digs. Ross and Carroll each have 56 kills.
Ross is second on the team with 35 digs and Carroll is third with 30 digs. Senior libero Francisco Comas (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) leads the team with 39 digs. Redshirt junior middle blocker Jacob Gall (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) leads the team with 17 total blocks (three solo and 14 block assists).
Maryville enters the season 3-4 in their first year as a program. The Saints are led by Mason Mortimer with 53 kills. Mortimer is one of four Saints to have 40 or more kills. Jacob Fischer has 48 kills, Tate Sandvig has 47 kills and Luke Van Handel has 40 kills on the season.
Fischer leads the team with his 23 blocks (11 solo and 12 block assists). Cameron Chambers and Sandvig lead the Saints with their 33 digs followed by Van Handel's 32 digs.
After the matchup with the Saints the Bearcats continue their homestand on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. against Ohio State and will conclude their homestand on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. against Ball State.
