Women's Lacrosse Defeats Quincy on Senior Day at Leemon Field

LEBANON, Ill. – The McKendree University women's lacrosse extended its win streak to two straight games here Sunday afternoon as the Bearcats picked up a 16-5 victory over Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference on Senior Day at Leemon Field.

With the win, the Bearcats even their season record at 6-6 and improve to 2-1 in the GLVC, while Quincy falls to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Prior to Sunday's game, the Bearcats honored their six seniors in a pregame ceremony. This year's seniors are attacker Kat Albrecht (Louisville, Ky./Eastern), goalie Clara Andrews (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall), midfielder Aly Curran (Bolton, Mass./Southern New Hampshire), senior defender Jennifer Eggert (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), midfielder Oriana Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) and junior defender/midfielder Brittany Koch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills).

Once again, the Bearcats offense was paced by the goal scoring of Albrecht and junior attacker Sydney Tiemann (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) as those two players combined for nine goals and two assists in the win. Albrecht finished with five goals and two assists and with those five goals, she moves into second place on the school's all-time goal scoring chart with 161. She entered the game with 156 goals and passed former Bearcat Rylee Skachenko, who scored 159 career goals from 2015-18. The school's record for goals is 213, which is held by Paige Salthouse, who played at McKendree from 2015-18. In addition to Albrecht's five goals, Tiemann added four goals before picking her second yellow card midway through the third period and had to sit out the rest of the game.

In addition to the nine goals combined from Albrecht and Tiemann, Johnson scored three times, added four draw controls and caused three turnovers, while Curran had two goals on the day.

Meanwhile, Andrews had an outstanding day between the pipes as she allowed five goals and seven saves, along with picking up two ground balls and causing one turnover.

The Bearcats jumped in front 2-0 in the opening 71 seconds of the game as Tiemann scored the first goal just 18 seconds in the contest and freshman midfielder Shauna Curran (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional) added a second goal about a minute later.

Bianca Johnson would get the Hawks on the board with her unassisted goal with 12:38 left in the opening period. Albrecht and Tieman would then score to give the Bearcats a 4-2 lead with 9:27 left in the opening period.

After Kara Wilhelm cut the McKendree lead to 4-2 with her unassisted goal with 7:37 left in the period, Albrecht would connect on a free position goal with 2:20 left in the period to give the Bearcats a 5-2 lead.

The Bearcats lead grew to 9-2 after scoring four consecutive goals to open the second period, before QU got a goal from Johnson with 14 seconds left to cut the Bearcats halftime lead to 9-3.
Tieman, Albrecht, Johnson, and Albrecht again helped push the Bearcats lead to 13-3 with 2:18 left in the third period. The latter goal by Albrecht was on a free position shot and pushes her within three of the school record for 50 free position goals, which is held Salthouse.

Albrecht's goal gave the Bearcats a 10-goal lead and the running clock started, but QU would score a goal from Patricia Chavira with 11 seconds left in the period to drop the Bearcats lead to nine goals.

Wilhelm added her second goal of game just about two minutes into the fourth period to pull QU within 13-5, but Johnson would score two straight goals for the Bearcats to extend its lead to 15-5 and Aly Curran would cap the scoring on a free position goal with 11 seconds left in the game.

On the day, McKendree held a 35-15 edge in shots, including Tiemann leading the way with 13 and Albrecht was right behind with 11 shots. Additionally, the Bearcats held a 12-6 edge in ground balls and won the turnover battle as QU had 19 turnovers to 16 for McKendree.

QU also held an edge in draw controls, 13-12 as Wilhelm and Danielle Robinson combined for nine in the game. Tiemann and Johnson each had four for the Bearcats.

Wilhelm and Johnson each had two goals for the Hawks.

Kelly McCure played all 60 minutes in goal for the Hawks as she allowed 16 goals, while recording 10 saves and picked up two ground balls in the loss.
