CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University baseball (12-22, 7-9 GLVC) dropped the final game, 12-1, of a four-game weekend with Maryville (21-16, 10-6 GLVC), only scoring a single run in the outing behind a bomb by sophomore outfielder
Joseph Copeland. McKendree collected just five hits with graduate outfielder
Ryan Hutchinson knocking a single and double. The Bearcats will look to get back in the win column during an outing at Eastern Illinois on Tuesday, April 19, in Charleston, Illinois.
The series finale between the Saints and Bearcats kicked off in the first inning with the host scoring one run. The Saints then tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third, taking a 4-0 lead over the Bearcats.
McKendree put up its sole run in the fourth inning behind Copeland's 13th homer of the spring, which leads the team. The run cut the Maryville lead to three runs, 4-1.
The hosting-Saints went back to work in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring eight over the two innings. With the flurry of runs in the latter innings, Maryville pushed its lead to 12-1 to clinch the series victory.
The Bearcats dropped the series 1-3, moving to 7-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this season. McKendree will play a single non-conference game on Tuesday, April 19, against Eastern Illinois prior to returning to league-play on April 22-24 in Bolivar, Missouri, against Southwest Baptist.
