RANTOUL, Ill. - McKendree University baseball (12-23, 7-9 GLVC) was unable to topple the Ohio Valley Conference-leading Eastern Illinois Panthers (25-9, 7-2 OVC) during a mid-week battle at the Rantoul Family Sports Complex, dropping the contest, 0-9. The Bearcats return to Great Lakes Valley Conference-play on April 22-23 at Southwest Baptist (7-30, 2-14 GLVC) in Bolivar, Missouri, for a four-game series.
The Bearcats went down early to the Panthers, giving up a pair of runs in the first inning, going down 2-0 to the host. McKendree was unable to collect a base-runner or hit until the fifth inning where senior outfielder
Corey Price knocked into play for an infielder single. The offense came up short in the remainder of the inning. The second hit of the game came in the sixth when graduate catcher
Mason Hale beamed a ball into center, reaching first in the action. McKendree failed to build following the Hale base hit.
Eastern Illinois tacked on a flurry of runs after its first-inning pair, firing off seven more through the game, winning 9-0 over the visiting-Bearcats.
UP NEXT
McKendree baseball will be back on the field for a four-game series in Bolivar on April 22-23 against Southwest Baptist. The series changed from its original schedule to feature back-to-back double-headers with the games beginning at 4 P.M. on Friday with a nine-inning outing and a seven-inning contest slated for an approximate 7 P.M. first pitch.
