COLUMBUS, Ohio – McKendree University men's volleyball fell in five sets here Saturday night to Ohio State at the Covelli Center. 

The 15th-ranked Bearcats took set one 27-25 before falling 25-23 in set two and 25-16 in set three before winning the fourth set 25-19 to force a fifth and decisive set in which the Buckeyes won 15-13. The Bearcats fell to 12-10 on the season and 7-5 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play while Ohio State improved to 11-13 on the season and 5-7 in MIVA play. 

The fifth set was tightly contested as the Bearcats hit .294 while the Buckeyes hit .320 in the fifth set. For the match McKendree hit .272 while the Buckeyes hit .356 for the match. 

Offensively, the Bearcats were led by graduate student outside hitter Patrick Ross (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek) as he recorded 18 kills. Freshman outside hitter Kevin Schuele (Aurora, Ill./Saint Francis) tied his career-high with 17 kills against Ohio State. Graduate student opposite hitter Ethan Carroll (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) added 11 kills in the match. 

Defensively, senior libero Francisco Comas (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Schuele each recorded 11 digs in the match. Carroll added seven digs, while Ross had six and Serrano had five. 

Ohio State was led by Jacob Pasteur with 21 kills while Martin Lallemand recorded 20 kills and Samuel Clark added 15 kills. Clark added 11 digs and Lallemand added 10 digs. 

Notes: 

With 18 kills, Ross is now the career kills leader with 939 kills as he passed Nolan Rueter's 933 career kills. Ross needs 14 kills to reach 300 on the season, while Carroll needs 10 kills to reach 300 for the season.
