Kettering Named to GLVC Women's Tennis James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced the 2022 women's tennis postseason awards and All-Conference teams prior to the beginning of the start of the GLVC Women's Tennis Tournament here at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center and among the honorees was Emily Kettering (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community West).
 
Kettering was one of 14 student-athletes from across the league named to the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team, which recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The individuals named must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the 2021-22 academic year.
 
During the 2021-22 season, Kettering played primarily at No. 6 singles and posted a 5-10 overall record and went 7-11 in doubles playing at the No. 3 spot. She played primarily in doubles with sophomore Maria Victoria Salomao (Minas Geraids, Brazil/Belo Horizonte).
 
Kettering and the Bearcats finished the 2021-22 season with a 7-11 overall record and went 1-5 in GLVC action.
 
Other members of the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team for women's tennis were Drury's Alma Abazi, UIS' Sina Skjelstad, Indianapolis' Kristina Lagoda, Lewis' Casey Smith, Lindenwood's Paula Sostres, Maryville's Nicole Pafundi, UMSL's Tara Erler, Quincy's Laila Leist-Alston, Rockhurst's Martyna Jankowska, USI's Rachel McCorkle, Southwest Baptist's Paula Ballesteros, Truman State's Samantha Seggerman and William Jewell's Katie Boyd.
 
The league also named Southern Indiana as the recipient of the GLVC James R. Spalding Team Sportsmanship Award for the 2021-22 season.
 
In addition, the league also announced the other individual award winners on Friday as Indianapolis' Anna Novikova was named the GLVC Player of the Year, while Drury's Ewa Samberger was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year.
 
On the league's All-GLVC Team, UIndy paced the way with four selections, whole Drury was next with three overall selections. UIS and Southwest Baptist had two selections. Lewis, Lindenwood, Maryville, UMSL, Quincy and Rockhurst each had one.
