FULTON, Mo. – The women's tennis team defeated the Owls of William Woods 6-1 today in an exhibition match.
The Bearcats swept the doubles matches, putting them ahead 1 point before singles play. In the no. 1 match, senior
Lena Greefs and freshman
Kristina Bogomazova battled Simon Sanchez and Sikand, coming out on top 7(8)-6(6). Senior
Iva Poleksic and sophomore
Ivana Milkova took on Dimitrijevic and Ready in the no. 2 match, while freshman due
Emma Grantham and
Alessia Baiardi played Hecker and Littlejohn in the no. 3 match. Both matches were won 6-1 by the Bearcats.
The Bearcats battled in singles play. All but one match was over 2 hours long. In the no. 1 spot, Poleksic won in straight sets over Simon Sanchez 6-0, 6-3. Milkova fell in the first set, but battled back the 2
nd and 3
rd set to take the win over Sikand 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the no. 2 spot. Bogomazova defeated Dimitrijevic 7-5, 6-2 in the no. 3 spot. Grantham started off her no. 4 match strong, coming out winning 7-5 in the first set, but ended up falling 4-6, 1-6 in the last two sets to Hecker. Baiardi made quick work of her no. 5 match, defeating Ready 6-2, 7(7)-6(3) in an hour. Rounding out the wins on the day, playing her first match of the day in the no. 6 match, winning in straight sets over Hausner 6-4, 6-4.
