Women's Lacrosse Scores 20 Goals in Picking Up GLVC Win Over Maryville

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The McKendree University women's lacrosse team scored 20 goals here Friday afternoon en route to picking up a 20-10 victory over Maryville University in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at Hunter Stadium on the Lindenwood campus.
 
With the win, McKendree improves to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC, while Maryville falls to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
Junior attackers Kat Albrecht (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) and Sydney Tiemann (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) combined to score 13 goals, while graduate student midfielder Oriana Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) added five goals in the win. Tiemann scored seven goals and Albrecht added six goals.
 
Junior goalkeeper Clara Andrews (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) picked up the win between the pipes as she recorded eight saves and had three ground balls in the win.
 
Reagan Rukstad led the way for Maryville with three goals, while Jessie Hynes added two goals for the Saints.
 
Johnson got the scoring started with an unassisted goal just 16 seconds in the contest and after Ronnie Skorcz gave Maryville its first goal nearly three minutes into the game, Albrecht and Tiemann scored goals a little over two minutes between them to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead with 8:17 left in the opening period.
 
Rukstad added an unassisted goal to drop McKendree's lead to 3-2 with 7:40 left in the period, but Tiemann and Johnson would each score goals for the Bearcats to give them a 5-2 lead after the first 15 minutes of action.
 
Tiemann scored three straight goals and then freshman midfielder Shuana Curran (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional) added two straight goals to open the second period to give the Bearcats a 10-2 lead. Lexi Taylor capped the scoring in the second period to give the Bearcats a 10-3 halftime lead.
 
The Bearcats would score four goals in the third period with two each coming from Albrecht and Tiemann to give McKendree a 14-7 lead heading to the fourth period.
 
In the fourth period, the teams combined for nine goals with the Bearcats scoring six of those nine goals. Johnson scored three of those six goals, while Albrecht added two goals and Tiemann scored the other goal.
 
The Bearcats held a 38-25 edge in shots and 31-18 advantage in shots on goal. Tiemann (13) and Johnson (12) combined for 25 of the Bearcats' 38 shots. Skyler Jolie had six shots, while Rukstad and Julia Banfield had five shots for the Saints.
 
Maryville held a 14-12 edge in ground balls, but the Saints committed 15 turnovers to McKendree's 11 turnovers.
 
The Saints also won the draw control battle, 19-14, as Jolie paced Maryville with seven and Johnson had six for the Bearcats.
 
Jo Miles played the first three periods in goal for Maryville and finished the game with nine saves, while allowing 17 goals and collecting two ground balls. Meghan Flock played the fourth period in goal and allowed three goals and made two saves.
 
McKendree will look to win its second straight game on Sunday, April 10 as they host Quincy for a 12 p.m. Senior Day game at Leemon Field. Prior to the game, the Bearcats will honor its six-member senior class in a pregame ceremony. This year's seniors are Andrews, Albrecht, Johnson, midfielder Aly Curran (Bolton, Mass./Southern New Hampshire), senior defender Jennifer Eggert (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and junior defender/midfielder Brittany Koch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills).
