Men's Tennis Ranked Third in Final ITA Midwest Region Rankings

Frederico, Kamdem Ranked in Top 10 in Both Singles and Doubles in Midwest Region

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released their final NCAA Division II ITA Collegiate Tennis Regional Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point on Monday afternoon as McKendree University was one of three schools from the Great Lakes Valley Conference ranked in the final Midwest Region rankings.
 
McKendree was ranked third in the final ITA Midwest Regional rankings and was just behind No. 2 Indianapolis and ahead of eighth-ranked Drury. Wayne State (Mich.) was the top-ranked team in the final ITA Midwest Regional rankings.
 
Along with being ranked No. 3 in the final ITA Midwest Region rankings, McKendree closed the 2021-22 season ranked No. 22 in the final ITA Division II National Collegiate Team rankings.
 
In addition to McKendree, UIndy, Lewis and Wayne State (Mich.), the other teams ranked in the final ITA Midwest Regional rankings were Grand Valley State at No. 4, Ferris State was fifth, Tiffin was sixth, Walsh was seventh, Findlay was ninth and Davenport was ranked 10th.
 
Along with having its men's team ranked No. 3 in the final ITA Midwesr Regional rankings, the Bearcats had two of its players ranked in the Top 10 of both the final Midwest Region singles and doubles player rankings.
 
In singles, junior Leonardo Frederico (Tijucas-Santa Cantrina, Brazil/Unicesumar) finishes the season ranked No. 2 in singles in the Midwest Region after posting a 20-4 overall record and was 16-2 against Division II opponents at No. 1 singles, including going undefeated in singles play in GLVC play. Frederico, who was named the GLVC Player of the Year, was also ranked No. 53 in the final NCAA Division II National Singles Player rankings, while graduate student Boriss Kamdem (Ghent, Belgium/University of Tulsa) closes the season ranked No. 8 in the final ITA Midwest Region singles player rankings. On the season, Kamdem, who was a First-Team All-GLVC selection, posted a 19-6 overall record and a 15-4 mark against Division II opponents at the No. 2 spot in the Bearcats' line-up. In the final NCAA Division II ITA National Singles Player rankings, Kamdem was ranked No. 39.
 
Frederico and Kamdem were two of the 10 singles players from the GLVC ranked in the final ITA Midwest Regional rankings, including Frederico being the highest ranked singles player from the league.
 
Meanwhile, in doubles, the duo of Frederico and Kamdem are ranked seventh in the final ITA Midwest Region Doubles Player rankings. Frederico and Kamdem posted an 18-7 overall record on the season and went 12-6 against Division II opponents. They finished the year ranked 25th in doubles nationally in the final ITA National Player rankings.
 
Frederico and Kamdem were one of the four GLVC doubles players ranked in the final Top 10 of the ITA Midwest Regional rankings.
