LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's soccer enters the 2022 season after tallying 132 points and six first-place votes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll, taking second in the preseason voting process. The Bearcats, who come off of a fourth-straight GLVC regular season title and fifth-straight NCAA tournament bid, were chosen to finish behind Drury, which grabbed 133 total points.The Bearcats come up just one point shy of topping another GLVC preseason poll but collected the most first-place votes among the contenders while the Panthers received five, UIndy earned one, and UMSL nabbed one.
McKendree amassed a 12-3-4 (10-2-2 GLVC) record during the 2021 fall season, reaching another NCAA tournament after it collected another GLVC title during the regular season. McKendree failed to move on from the first round of the conference tournament after penalty kicks with UMSL (T1-1, UMSL advances on PKs, 5-4) and then hit a hiccup during a frigide NCAA First Round matchup in Allendale, Michigan, against UIndy. The Bearcats not only return a flurry of veteran experience for the upcoming season but also bring in a signing class of 14 players with a handful of international talent.
2022 begins with a true road match at Upper Iowa and a neutral site game against Concordia St. Paul, both in Fayette, Iowa, on the UIU campus. The season-opener will kick-off at 6 P.M. on August 25 against the Peacocks while game two will be an 11 A.M. matchup against CSP on August 27. Following the opening road matchups, the Bearcats will host Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan at Leemon Field on September 3 and 6.
