COLUMBUS, Ohio - McKendree University men's soccer began its 2022 season in proper fashion with a 2-0 victory over the host, Ohio Dominican on Thursday evening. The Bearcats and Panthers played to a draw in the first 45 minutes but McKendree scored twice in the final 10 minutes via freshman forward

Stuebbe, a native of Teningen, Germany, made his Bearcats debut in the Thursday evening contest with ODU and collected his first two scores to lead McKendree. Both goals for Stuebbe came in the final 10 minutes of the match with the first being fired via a dish-out from sophomore midfielder
Philipp Schmidt in the 81st minute of action. Schmidt collected a long goal kick from goalkeeper
Anthony Swenson, taking the ball into the attacking third and sending a quick-roller out to Stuebbe who snuck it past the Panther keeper (McK 1 - 0 ODU). Just over a minute and a half later, freshman midfielder
Oliver Brander got the ball back from the Panthers' back line and passed it across to freshman defender
Rhys Davies, who found Stuebbe on a forward knock, which Stuebbe fired into the net (McK 2 - 0 ODU).
The first half of play was a null draw for both sides with just eight total shots as the Bearcats fired six in the first 45. Defensive efficiency was a theme of half one with the teams collecting three total corners during the opening half of action as well, which McKendree also led at two to one.
Overall, McKendree out-shot Ohio Dominican 12 to 11 on the evening and earned more corners with four compared to ODU's three. Sophomore goalkeeper
Anthony Swenson earned a victory in his first career start, nabbing two saves in the contest and playing the full 90 minutes.
