INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - No.15 McKendree University women's soccer (5-0-2, 1-0-1) continued its season-opening unbeaten streak on Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Indianapolis (1-2-3, 0-0-2). The Bearcats broke a two-game skid against the Hounds with the draw as senior midfielder
Elizabeth Goldstein fired her second score of the season in the match. McKendree will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday, September 23, at Quincy and Sunday September 25 at Illinois Springfield.
The 15th-ranked Bearcats took the lead in the 12th minute of the game following a foul committed by the Greyhounds, drawn by junior forward
Anna Stiffler in the box. With the foul, McKendree was awarded a penalty kick, which was taken by Goldstein and put the Bearcats up, 1-0. McKendree held the lead for 18 minutes after the PK score until the Greyhounds found a similar situation come up for their own opportunity. In the 30th minute, UIndy was awarded a penalty kick, which they fired into the net to knot up the game, 1-1.
The scoring ceased following the Hounds' PK score, with the game finishing in a gridlock at 1-1.Â
McKendree out-shot the Hounds, 18 to 11, with half of its shots on-frame while UIndy put just three on goal. The Bearcats fired 11 shots in the second half while they also amassed six corner kicks total, three in each half.
