No.14 Women's Soccer Beats Out Quincy in Thriller

Frederking fires game-winner in 85th minute

QUINCY, Ill. - 14th-ranked McKendree University women's soccer (6-0-2, 2-0-1) defeated Great Lakes Valley Conference-foe Quincy in thrilling, late game fashion on Friday evening with an 85th minute goal by senior midfielder Allison Frederking, which put the Bearcats up for good, 2-1. McKendeee extends its unbeaten streak to eight straight games to start the season. The Bearcats will head up to Springfield on Sunday for another GLVC bout before returning home on September 30.

The scoring effort was kicked off by junior forward Anna Stiffler, who fired a tying goal in the 30th minute following a corner kick by senior midfielder Elizabeth Goldstein, Stiffler collected the ball after it was knocked around by the Hawks' defense, connecting her right foot and firing it over the keeper for her team-leading fifth score of the fall. Her goal was the equalizer after Quincy earned a penalty kick, which was converted, in the 12th minute of the contest.

McKendree broke through late in the game with back-to-back corner kicks by junior midfielder Reagan Mauch, as she fired the second ball on the near side of the net. Junior forward Destiny Johnson fired two shots of her own in the moments after the corner as she gathered her own rebound for her second firing of the ball. The second attempted shot by the junior forward was sent into the back of the net by the senior Frederking, giving the visiting-Bearcats a 2-1 advantage in the 85th minute of play.

The game was heavily controlled by the Bearcats following the Quincy goal, with the Bearcats firing 18 total shots, including nine each half. McKendree put 12 of 18 shots on frame while the host fired just six with three on goal. The No.14 Bearcats earned eight corners in the match, positioning their chances well, as the Hawks earned just one over the 90-minute outing.

Senior Abby Tucker marked her seventh full time game this fall, improving to 6-0-2 on the year with a pair of saves against the Hawks.
