QUINCY, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer (3-2-2, 1-1-1) picked up its first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory with a second half push against the Hawks on Friday night, scoring three goals in the final 45 minutes of play to secure the 3-2 win. Three scorers headlined the efforts with freshmen forwards
Stephan Stuebbe and
Dayton Strattman while senior defender
Cole Gerstenberger scored the game-winner in the 90th minute.
The Bearcats went down 1-0 early with the Hawks scoring in the fifth minute of play and then holding the 1-0 lead through the first half. McKendree tied the game up in the 56th minute behind a score from Stuebbe off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Philipp Schmidt. The Bearcats then took a 2-1 lead with Strattman firing his second career goal in the 68th off another pass from Schmidt.
McKendree put the game away in the final minute with the senior Gerstenberger connecting with a header off a corner by sophomore defender
Matteo Schubert.
NOTES
McKendree scored multiple goals for the first time since August 27 against then-No.15 Lake Erie in Columbus during a neutral site non-conference game.

Stephan Stuebbe scored his fourth goal of the season, which leads the Bearcats.
Sophomore midfielder
Philipp Schmidt dished-out two more assists against the Hawks, which marked his fourth and fifth of the 2022 campaign.

Dayton Strattman returned to action with great impact as he scored his second collegiate goal in the outing.

Cole Gerstenberger fired his first score of the season, which eventually proved to be the game-winner for the Bearcats.
