SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - No.14 McKendree University women's soccer (7-0-2, 3-0-1 GLVC) defeated Illinois Springfield, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season. The Bearcats recorded their fourth clean sheet of the season while sophomore forward
Lena Higgins fired her second career goal, which proved to be the eventual game-winner against the Prairie Stars. McKendree will be back at Leemon Field for its next games on September 30 against Truman State and October 2 versus William Jewell.
The Bearcats and Stars played a neck-and-neck game during the early part sof the outing but McKendree took control late in the first half. In the 41st minute of the game, Higgins connected on a pass from senior defender
Morgan Bova, firing it past the Stars' keeper and putting the Bearcats up 1-0 to close the half.
McKendree did not wait long into the second half to add an insurance score in the game with junior forward
Anna Stiffler firing her sixth of the year off a pass from sophomore forward
Gillian Nicholson in the 46th minute of play. The assist was Nicholson's first assist and point of the fall. Stiffler leads the Bearcats in points this fall with 12 over the first nine games.

Abby Tucker recorded her fourth clean sheet this fall and eighth full time game in net. Tucker grabbed four saves in the game, pushing her season total to 20 while lowering her goals allowed average to 0.58.

NOTES
McKendree remained unbeaten on the season with the two wins this weekend. The Bearcats added six points in the league with their pair of wins.
Anna Stiffler fired her sixth goal on the year, bringing her point total to 12, which leads the Bearcats.
Lena Higgins scored her second collegiate goal in the game which also was the eventual game-winner for the Bearcats.
Gillian Nicholson collected her first assist and point of the campaign against UIS, dishing-out the pass on Stiffler's goal.
Abby Tucker added four saves to her total this fall and also added her fourth shutout of the 2022 season in the process.
