INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - No.14 McKendree University women's soccer nabbed its first Great Lakes Valley Conference weekly award of the fall as senior goalkeeper
Abby Tucker was named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week, announced the league office on Monday afternoon. Tucker and the Bearcats took both games over the weekend, beating Quincy and Illinois Springfield on the road to extend the season-opening unbeaten streak. It is Tucker's first career GLVC weekly honor and the Bearcats' first defensive weekly award since
Mercedes King in
March 2021.
Tucker, a native of Wentzville, Missouri, recorded two more wins and a fourth shutout on the year while in net for full time this past weekend, helping the 14th-ranked Bearcats improve to 7-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the GLVC. The senior keeper added six saves on the weekend with a season-high of four against Illinois Springfield on September 25. The six saves bring her season total to 20 as she faced 13 shots over the weekend. Tucker, a product of Timberland, allowed just one goal in 180 minutes which came via penalty kick against Quincy, which lowered her goals allowed average to 0.58. Her goals allowed average ranks fourth in the GLVC while she has logged the third-most minutes in goal among GLVC goalkeepers during the 2022 campaign.Â
This season, Tucker (7-0-2, 3-0-1) has started all nine outings, playing full-time in eight of the nine matches. She has collected 20 saves while facing 61 shots, earning an .800 save percentage and has allowed just five goals against her No.14 Bearcats.Â
