LEBANON, Ill. – The McKendree University women's rugby program opened its 7's season this past Saturday with a 30-5 win over Washington University in St. Louis. The match was played on WashU's home field in St. Louis, Mo.

Saturday's match at WashU was the first for the Bearcats this season as their previously two scheduled matches on Sept. 10 at WashU and on Sept. 17 at Davenport were canceled.

"Cam and myself are super happy with the performance on the weekend, you can never be too ready for the season opener, but we are building nicely and looking forward to our home opener this coming Saturday at Leemon Field," McKendree women's rugby head coach Daniel Jones said.

McKendree will return to action this coming weekend as they host a 7's Tournament at Leemon Field on the McKendree campus. At the one-day event, the Bearcats will face Maryville at 10 a.m., University of Illinois at 11 a.m., University of Southern Indiana at 12 p.m. and WashU at 1 p.m. All of this weekend's games will be shown online on McKendree's GLVC Sports Network (https://www.glvcsn.com/mckendree/).
