LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University men's soccer (2-1-1) dropped its first contest of the season on Saturday afternoon, 0-1, against Christian Brothers at Leemon Field. The Bearcats were unable make a comeback through the end of the outing after allowing an early score by the Buccaneers. McKendree will have a lengthy break prior to its next game, taking on Lewis at home on September 16.
The Bearcats looked to stay unbeaten in the contest but allowed the visiting CBU Buccaneers to fire a goal in the seventh minute, taking the lead, 1-0. The Bearcats put up seven shots in the first 45 but failed to convert the attempts.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle as both teams jostled for possession and offensive positioning. The Bearcats tallied four more shots to total 11 on the day, out-shooting the Bucs, 11 to six. McKendree also finished out its home opener with 10 corner kicks earned while the visitor just had three in the game.
McKendree allowed its first goal on the year during its fourth game out, bringing its goals allowed average to 0.25. McKendree now has more than doubled its opponents earned corners with 26 this year.
