No. 1-Ranked Women's Bowling Takes Second on Day 1 of Northeast Classic

DEPTFORD, N.J. - McKendree University women's bowling recorded a 4-1 record on the first day of competition in the Northeast Classic hosted by Sacred Heart University. The No. 1-ranked Bearcats sit second behind Vanderbilt with a total pinfall of 5,142 heading into the second day of the three-day event featuring 33 teams. 

On Friday, McKendree opened the tournament with five Baker matches, resulting in four substantial victories for the Bearcats, including a 1,023-942 win over Merrimack followed by a 1,026-988 victory over Mercyhurst to start the day. Against Delware State, the Bearcats came away with a 1,076-912 win before taking down host Scared Heart 1,069-832. 

McKendree recorded only one loss on the day that marked their its only game with a total pinfall under 1,000 pins as the Bearcats fell to Wagner in their final Baker match of the day, 1,013-948. The loss snapped a 17-game win streak for the Bearcats as they posted a 13-0 record in their previous outing, the Stormin' Blue & White Classic. 

McKendree resumes play on Saturday with five traditional matches to determine seeding in bracket play on Sunday.
