BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - McKendree University women's water polo competed in the Hoosier Invitational over the weekend, facing four challenging opponents over the two-day event. The Bearcats fall to 0-4 on the season as they prepare to host Augustana on Feb. 11.
McKendree faced No.22 Marist College on Friday morning, falling 15-10 to the Red Foxes in its first game of the season. The Bearcats were led by fifth-year senior center Abigail Burton with five goals and graduate student attacker Jaleh Moaddeli with four goals.
Senior utility Katelyn Rodrigue dished out a team-high three assists while Moaddeli and freshman Johanna Rebelo snagged four steals each. Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Kane held the net for McKendree, collecting eight saves.
Against Cal State East Bay, the Bearcats battled closely with the Pioneers, though CSEB would escape with a 14-12 victory. Burton and Moaddeli netted three goals each while Rebelo snagged three steals.
On Sunday, the Bearcats fell to No.13 Indiana 20-6 and No.22 Harvard 17-4 to conclude the weekend outing. Burton led the offensive charge with two goals against Indiana while four different Bearcats each scored a goal against Harvard.
McKendree will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. hosting Augustana College at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
