LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer (RV) tallied a point in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Sunday afternoon with a 1-1 tie against eighth-ranked Indianapolis at home. The tie marks back-to-back draws with the nationally-ranked Hounds as the Bearcats continue their strong start to the 2023 campaign. McKendree heads into another ranked matchup next weekend with a road game at Maryville on Friday before taking on Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon.

McKendree and UIndy matched up as two of the four GLVC teams mentioned in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, and the contest was an end-to-end bout. The first half ended in a null tie as the Hounds narrowly out-shot the Bearcats in the initial 45 minutes, three to two.

No.8 UIndy struck first in the game overall as they fired an unassisted score in the 54th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats were not shy following the Hounds' score, pushing hard throughout the remainder of the game and tying it shortly after the visitor's goal. In the 62nd, McKendree tied the contest with junior midfielder Philipp Schmidt firing a shot to the lower left side of the goal and finiding the net. Sophomore defender / midfielder Rhys Davies and freshman midfielder Olle Ridelius recorded assists on the game-tying goal.

Both the Bearcats and Hounds fought in the final stages of the game with no further scores occurring. The draw marks back-to-back ties between the squads.
