Women’s Volleyball Wins Three at Midwest Region Crossover

HAMMOND, Ind. - McKendree University women's volleyball went three-for-three for the first time in program history at the Midwest Region Crossover on Friday and Saturday in Hammond, Ind. The Bearcats improve to 10-9 on the season. 

McKendree won a close five-set battle in game one of the day against Saginaw Valley State University. The Cardinals edged out the Bearcats in set one 25-23, but McKendree rebounded quickly with two big sets wins of their own, 25-15 and 25-16. Saginaw Valley found a spark in set four at 25-20 but could not overcome the Bearcats in set five as McKendree secured the win 15-10.  

Junior outside hitter Emma McIlhargie crushed a career-high 20 kills for McKendree while senior opposite side hitter Colleen Preusser posted a 15-dig, 11-kill double-double. Junior setter Amber Williams also delivered 48 assists and tallied 14 digs for a double-double. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Harris popped up a career-high 24 digs and put down 14 kills for a double-double as well as a career-high three aces.  

Two more Bearcats were in double-figure digs including senior outside hitter Maddie Misner and sophomore libero Ashlyn Berczynski with 16 digs apiece.  

The Bearcats swept their next two games against Lake Erie College on Friday afternoon and Malone University on Saturday morning. McKendree dominated the Storm by scores of 25-15, 25-7 and 25-13.  

Leading the Bearcats against Lake Erie was Preusser with her second double-double of the weekend, collecting 11 digs and 11 kills. As a team, McKendree hit a season-high .484 percent.  

Against Malone, the Bearcats had another strong performance, edging out the Pioneers 25-15, 26-24, and 25-17. McKendree tallied a season-high 14 aces, led by Berczynki with a career-high six service aces. Williams notched 30 assists and 12 digs for a double-double. Harris and Preusser snagged 13 and 12 digs, respectively, while McIlhargie led with 11 kills.  

Coming up, the Bearcats will look to continue the win-streak against Maryville on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. for the program's Breast Cancer Awareness game.
