Bearcats tally three more points in league standings with win

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University men's soccer (RV) recorded a third-straight shutout and improved to 7-1-5 overall and 5-1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Sunday, beating Upper Iowa 2-0. The Bearcats gained four points in the GLVC standings on the weekend while extending their unbeaten streak to five games. McKendree will be back on the road for the next two games, heading up to Quincy and Illinois Springfield on October 20 and 22.

McKendree jumped on Upper Iowa quickly to begin its afternoon, scoring both goals in the first half while controlling possession for the majority of the period. In the 25th minute, the Bearcats rallied for multiple chances in their attacking third and found the back of the net. Sophomore midfielder Gabe Hallsten scored his first goal of the season to push McKendree to the lead while junior midfielder Philipp Schmidt dished out the assist.

The Bearcats added their second goal of the day in the 41st minute of action with junior forward Jack Hynes collecting a loose ball within the Peacocks defensive half and turning to fire it past the goalkeeper. The goal was unassisted and Hynes' first of the season.

McKendree held a 2-0 advantage going into the half and kept the clean sheet through the second 45 minutes of play. Freshman goalkeeper Christian Herluf played full-time in net with once save.
