Stiffler Breaks McKendree DII Scoring Mark as Bearcats Grab Road Win

Bearcats tally 5-0 win over Hawks with Stiffler reaching 39 career goals

QUINCY, Ill. | Legends Stadium - McKendree University women's soccer (10-1-3, 6-1-3 GLVC) collected three more points in the league standings, defeating the Quincy Hawks in commanding fashion, 5-0. The Bearcats were led by senior forward Anna Stiffler, who fired two goals on her way to breaking McKendree's NCAA Division II goal mark, totaling 39 in her career so far. McKendree will play its final regular season road game on Sunday, October 22, in a tough battle at Illinois  Springfield.

McKendree took nearly no time in route to the lead at Legends Stadium as Stiffler fired a score in the second minute off a deep ball from junior defender Maria Voss. The goals put McKendree up 1-0 while it put Stiffler in a tie for the Bearcats' NCAA Division II mark for career goals at 38. Former women's soccer standout Sydnee Carroll tallied 38 goals from 2015-2019; Carroll still holds the mark for single-season scores with 17 in 2016. Following-up the first and eventual game-winner, Stiffler managed the record-breaking goal in the 11th minute of action as she got a dish-out from junior forward Lena Higgins. The goal was Stiffler's ninth of the season and 39th of the forward's career. Rounding-out the first half for the Bearcats was sophomore forward Abigail Simon who scored an unassisted goal in the 36th minute, which put McKendree up 3-0 over the Hawks.

McKendree's second half did not see the Bearcats letting up as they fired two more scores to own the contest. In the 64th minute, senior midfielder Katie Spotanski added her third goal of the year with assists by freshman midfielder Maggie Gleckler and junior forward Gillian Nicholson. McKendree finished-off the game in the 78th as freshman forward Aubrey Andrews went for her first collegiate score while Gleckler dished-off the assist. Senior goalkeeper Abby Tucker grabbed a pair of saves in the shutout win.
