Women's Soccer Dominates in Regular Season Road Finale

Stiffler fires two while Spotanski, Mauch, and Nicholson add insurance scores

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. | Kiwanis Stadium - McKendree University women's soccer (11-1-3, 7-1-3 GLVC) put up another five goal shutout, defeating the Prairie Stars in commanding fashion for a fifth-straight shutout. The Bearcats tally back-to-back six-point weekends with the Sunday victory as they head into the final regular season slate. McKendree hosts Southwest Baptist on Friday, October 27 and then Drury on Sunday, October 29. 

McKendree fired-off early again in the road battle with senior forward Anna Stiffler scoring in the ninth minute of the game for the 1-0 lead over the Stars. Junior forward Lena Higgins dished-out the close-quarter cross to Stiffler, earning the assist. In the21st minute, the Bearcats broke through once again as Stiffler fired a long shot to find the back of the net for her 11th goal of the campaign. The assist was sent out via senior midfielder Katie Spotanski. The Bearcats led 2-0 at the half with Stiffler's pair. 

McKendree pushed further in the second half, maintaining control with a trio of insurance goals by three different players. In the 47th, Spotanski fired her fourth of the fall on an unassisted play. Later in the half, senior midfielder Reagan Mauch found her way into the fourth goal of her season on another unassisted blast into the net. Junior forward Gillian Nicholson rounded-out McKendree's scoring in the 74th minute, getting a dish-out from Mauch, to make it 5-0. 

The Bearcats tallied a fifth-straight shutout and win with senior goalkeeper Abby Tucker playing full-time in goal and collecting two saves. 

With the six-point weekend, the Bearcats pushed into a tie for second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings with two games remaining in the regular season slate. GLVC Tournament seeds will be finalized following all league action on October 29 with the top four seeds hosting quarterfinal games on November 5.

UP NEXT
McKendree plays host to SBU and Drury on October 27 and 29 to finish-out its regular season. The Bearcats will kick off at 5:00PM versus Southwest Baptist on Friday, October 27, and then at 12:00PM against Drury on Sunday, October 29.
