SPRINGFIELD, Ill. | Kiwanis Stadium - McKendree University men's soccer (8-1-6, 6-1-4 GLVC) added a sixth-straight shutout on Sunday afternoon, playing to a null draw with the No.14 Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield. The Bearcats have outscored opponents 8-0 over the stretch, going 3-0-3, including draws with two ranked opposing squads. McKendree returns to Leemon Field for its final two regular season contests against SBU and Drury.
The Sunday bout was a tightly contested battle between the Bearcats and Prairie Stars as the squads totaled just six shots with three in either direction. The three shots sent by McKendree featured three different players as junior midfielder
Philipp Schmidt, redshirt junior midfielder
Magnus Buschmeier, and freshman forward
Bjorn Sigurdsson each tallied one. Buschmeier's shot was the sole on-frame attempt in the game. Not only did shots equal-out for the teams, corner kicks followed suit with three as McKendree earned three in the first half.
The sixth-straight shutout came with the freshman
Christian Herluf playing full-time in goal, collecting two saves. It was the freshman's ninth shutout of the year while lowering his goals allowed average to 0.47 and raising his save percentage to 0.806.
UP NEXT
McKendree will host SBU on October 27 and Drury on October 29 to close-out the regular season. The Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament will follow the conclusion of the regular season with seeds being finalized following play on October 29. The top four teams will host their quarterfinal matchup.
