Erie, Pa.- McKendree University men's water polo is set to compete at WWPA Erie Classic this weekend Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29. The Bearcats will compete against Salem University, Gannon University, and Mercyhurst University. This is the first conference action the Bearcats play this fall.
Coming into this weekend the Bearcats sit at 5-9 on the season and will see their first action since the Gary Troyer invitational at the end of September. Breno Tebet and Isaac Demski have been spearheading the Bearcat offense with 3.1 and 2.7 points per game each.
Kicking off the weekend the Bearcats will face the 12-3 Salem Tigers at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Last fall, the Bearcats proved to be the superior feline as they beat the Tigers 23-14. Coming into the weekend Nikola Krstonosic and Ivan Zivojinovic have led the way for Salem and the entire WWPA in scoring with 80 and 66 goals respectively. Krstonosic also leads the WWPA in assists with 52 so far this season.
The Bearcats jump back in the pool at 4 p.m. to compete against the 6-6 Gannon Golden Knights. Alexandros Kotskar has led the charge for the Golden Knights with 47 total goals this season, ranking him sixth in the conference.
Sunday at 7 a.m. the Bearcats close out the weekend with a match against the 3-13 Mercyhurst Lakers. The Lakers are a familiar foe to Mckendree as they have faced off 15 times since 2017. The Bearcats have won nine in a row against Mercyhurst, and 11 of the last 12.
