FAYETTE, Iowa – McKendree University women's volleyball played two Great Lakes Valley Conference contests on the road this week, topping Truman State in three sets and falling 3-2 to Upper Iowa in a five-set battle.
Against Truman State, the Bearcats swept the match with scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 29-27. Senior opposite side hitter Colleen Preusser notched a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore outside hitters Destiny Gray and Lauren Harris added 14 kills each. On the defensive side, sophomore libero Ashlyn Berczynski tallied 16 digs while senior defensive specialist Maddie Misner popped up 12 digs of her own.
The Bearcats went into five sets with Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon, securing the first two sets 25-22 and 25-20 but would fall in the last three sets 25-20, 25-13, and 15-9. Preusser snagged another double-double with 17 kills and 19 digs in addition to a double-double from junior setter Amber Williams at 32 assists and 15 digs. Gray put down 12 kills for the Bearcats while Misner and Berczynski added 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Harris got in double digits for digs at 12 and senior middle blocker Claire Diercks took care of the blocks, claiming six for the match.
McKendree is back at home next weekend on Nov. 3-4 to take on Quincy at 6 p.m. on Friday and Illinois-Springfield on Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday will serve as Senior Day for the Bearcats.
