CHARLESTON, Ill. - McKendree University Indoor Track and Field competed at the Eastern Illinois University Early Bird Invite to cap off the 2023 calendar year.
Womens Results:
The 60m dash saw a trio of freshman compete with Amber Cotton leading the way for the Bearcats with a time of 8.00. Bailey Williams and Alexia Marwa ran 9.01 and 9.18 respectively.
The 60m hurdles had two Bearcats, freshman Lydia Trump and sophomore Azia Douglas compete running times of 10.20 and 10.58.
In the 200m Cotton and Marwa competed once again finishing first and third with times of 27.19 and 31.45. Both new personal bests in the distance.
The 400m saw freshman duo Iyanna Dear and Adonya Taylor place first and second with running new personal bests of 1:02.36 and 1:03.02. Sophomore Tori King also competed running 1:06.94.
In the 800m junior Reagan Lucas placed first with a time of 2:36.36. Sophomore Sophia Paschal placed second and freshman Chloe Gough placed third with times of 2:38.12 and 2:43.83 respectively.
The one mile race saw Paschal cross the line first with a time of 5:51.68 and Gough come through in 6:00.52. Freshman Caroline Peters ran a time of 6:18.79.
In the 4x400m relay team comprised of a quartet of freshman in Divine Favour Ozomma, Lydia Trump, Iyanna Dear, and Sara Belloso ran a time of 4:10.95.
Freshman Paula Niubo competed in the high jump jumping 1.45m a new personal best.
Bailey Williams competed in the long jump, jumping 4.88m.
Men's Results:
The men's 60m preliminaries saw sophomore David Richard run a 7.07 and advance to the finals. Sophomores George Safo, Dorian Foster, and Holden Hutchcraft ran 7.24, 7.25, and 7.35 respectively. Freshman Peyton Vest and Aaron Dabner both ran 7.40, and junior Mason Young ran 7.99. In the finals Richard ran 7.06 a new personal best which was good enough for fifth place on the day.
The 200m saw Hutchcraft lead the way with a time of 23.46. Foster and Young Al's doubled backed running 24.28 and 27.12 respectively. Freshman Riley Monroe crossed the line in 28.42.
The 400m saw Freshman Matthew Chandler secure first place with a time of 50.86. Safo ran a time of 53.79 and Monroe ran a new personal best of 1:03.7.
Senior Oshawi Burgher placed first in the 600m with a time of 1:27.44.
The 800m saw senior Seth Kasinger lead the way with a time of 2:08.92. Graduate Student Michael Hayeck placed second with a time of 2:09.54, and junior Caleb Klein third in 2:10.49. Senior Jaxon Groves-Scott finished in 2:13.13, and junior Braden Voss in 2:16.82. Sophomore Blake Westrater ran a 2:21.85.
The one mile race saw sophomore John Bush lead the way with a time of 4:37.53. Finishing second again was Hayeck with a new personal best of 4:39.79. Groves-Scott ran a new personal best of 4:47.02 and Klein followed in suit crossing the line in 4:47.70. Kasinger finished with a time of 4:58.45 and Westrater in 4:59.70. Voss ran a new personal best of 5:02.47.
The 4x400m relay team consisting of sophomore Roemello Byndloss, freshman Kewarny Fletcher, Chandler, and Bush placed first with a time of 3:21.32.
In the long jump Peyton Vest jumped a new personal long of 6.41m.
"The Bearcats Men's and Women's track and field teams posted a strong performance just before winter break at EIU. Way to go Bearcats!" Head Coach Barry Ford said.
