COLUMBUS, Ohio - McKendree University men's volleyball fell to Ohio State in its first Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association game of the year as the Buckeyes took the victory over the Bearcats 3-1. McKendree moves to 5-3 on the season and 0-1 in the MIVA.
The Buckeyes slipped away with the first set at 25-23 while the Bearcats posted a 25-22 win in the second set to tie the game at 1-1. Ohio State, however, would take the next two sets 25-18 and 25-21 to defeat McKendree 3-1.
McKendree was led in kills by redshirt junior outside hitter Kyle Wilson who tallied 15 kills across the four sets. Sophomore outside hitter Kevin Schuele and freshman opposite side hitter Bryce Wetjen recorded 10 kills each. Middle blockers redshirt senior Daniel Duggan and freshman Rolen Lively also posted seven kills each.
Defensively, Schuele led in digs with a season-high 14 while graduate student libero Francisco Comas tied his season-high with 10 digs. Lively collected six blocks for the night in addition to three each from junior setter Tyler Poulsen and Wilson.
The Buckeyes recorded a .281 hitting percentage as the Bearcats hit .221 for the four sets. However, McKendree won the battle of blocks with 8.5 to Ohio State's 6.5.
The Bearcats continue their road trip against MIVA opponents on Saturday with a 6 p.m. ET game at Ball State.
