AUSTIN, Texas | FloSports - Three individuals for McKendree University women's wrestling, 109
Emily Shilson, 130
Cameron Guerin, and 191
Sydnee Kimber, championed for the Bearcats during the 2023 NCWWC, earning themselves a place in the final Collegiate Pound-For-Pound Rankings announced by FloWrestling and American Women's Wrestling. Shilson, Guerin, and Kimber all defended their reigns in the NCAA program championships in Cedar Rapids in outstanding fashion with two pins victories and a near-tech fall win. The Bearcats finished the 2023 NCWWC in third with eight All-Americans while going 3/3 in championship matches.
#5 | Emily Shilson | 109 | Maple Grove, Minn.
Shilson, a then-three-time reigning NCWWC champion joined the Bearcats at the flip of the semester in January 2023, looking to defend her NCWWC title for the fourth-straight year and accomplished exactly that. The 109lb competitor dominated the season with a 9-0 record between the Region IV and national tournament, capping the year off with a pin fall over King's Sage Mortimer (19th in P4P rankings) in the championship bout. With her 2023 belt, Shilson earned her fifth national championship with one WCWA and four NCWWC titles. She totaled five wins via technical superiority and finished with one pin, winning both tournaments she competed in.
#9 | Cameron Guerin | 130 | Yakima, Wash.
Guerin, entered the year as the two-time reigning 130 champ, battled to defend her belt for a third-straight year in the 130 class. She saved a commanding all-star performance for the national tournament to win it all, again. The Yakima-native went 32-2 this season with 12 pins and 11 techs while winning three tournaments. Guerin took the title at the Adrian College Invite, the Bearcat Open, and the NCWWC. She racked-up bonus-point wins at the NCWWC behind a pair of pin falls, a tech fall, and near-tech fall (9-0) against Alexis Janiak (18th in P4P; beat Guerin twice during season). Guerin ranks ninth in the final 2022-23 P4P, reigning supreme in her weight class.
#13 | Sydnee Kimber | 191 | Sitka, Alaska
Kimber dominated another collegiate women's season with a fourth-straight individual title in the 191 class via pin fall for the third time in her career. Kimber went 29-1 on the season, dropping her first match in multiple years but avenging that loss with a pin in the championship match over Traeh Haynes (NCC). The Alaska did not show remorse through the year as she racked-up 18 fall victories as well as six technical falls while claiming victory at five tournaments. Kimber took the belt at the MoVal Open, NCC Open, first-ever Midlans Women's Championships, Bearcat Open, and NCWWC. Kimber closed-out her dominating collegiate career with the fourth-straight title at the NCWWC while suffering just a single loss in her final three years at McKendree.
