ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University women's lacrosse (4-7, 0-1 GLVC) fell in its first conference game of the season, dropping to local foe, No.21 Maryville on Thursday evening, 24-8. The Bearcats were led by junior defender
Olivia Julian, who fired four goals while going 2-2 on free position shots. The Bearcats continue Great Lakes Valley Conference play at home on April 6 and 8 against No.4 Indianapolis and Lewis at Leemon Field.
McKendree looked to get back in the win column after dropping its final non-conference matchup to Northern Michigan on March 25, 16-13, as it traveled to Maryville for it's first league game.
The Bearcats and Saints were in a close battle at the conclusion of the first quarter as the game was 5-3 in favor of the Saints. Over the first 15 minutes, Julian fired two of her four total goals while freshman
Jayna Barnden added her sole goal as McKendree's first of the contest. McKendree cut the lead to just one goal with 1:27 remaining after Julianm scored an unassisted goal but the Saints fired the final goal of the first quarter with just under a minute to play.
The Saints fired two more scores over the opening portion of the second quarter until Julian scored her third of the game, cutting the lead to three, 7-4. Maryville went on a run again, adding four more until the Bearcats added two of their own. Senior

Kat Albrecht fired her team's sixth, unassisted. The Saints led 12-6 at the half.
The 21st-ranked Saints went off the in the third with nine goals while holding the Bearcats scoreless over the time, taking a 21-6 advantage. McKendree added two more scores in the fourth and final quarter of play from Albrecht and Julian.
