Women's Lacrosse Tops Lewis Behind Albrecht's Late Goal, Falls to No.6 UIndy

Bearcats grab first GLVC win of the season

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - McKendree University women's lacrosse (5-8, 1-2 GLVC) split its most recent home slate with an 11-10 win over Lewis on April 8 after falling the sixth-ranked UIndy on April 6. The Bearcats grabbed their first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory in the contest against Lewis, moving to 1-2 this spring. McKendree is back on the field on April 14 and 16 at Quincy and Missouri Western before concluding the regular season at home on April 23 versus Rockhurst.

vs. No. 6 UINDY
The Bearcats looked to cut down a powerhouse in UIndy in their first home GLVC contest of the season but fell, 19-4, to the defending national champions. The Bearcats trailed just 4-1 at the end of the first quarter and narrowly at the half with a 8-4 advantage to the Hounds.

The second half led to struggles for McKendree, while the Greyhounds went on a tear, scoring 11 unanswered goals to solidify the win.

Four scorers headlined the effort for McKendree with attackers Kat Albrecht and Jenna Sugarman, midfielder Jayna Barnden, and defender Olivia Julian each firing a goal in the game. Clara Andrews played full-time in net with 11 saves on the day.

McKendree found a way to rebound after starting off GLVC play 0-2, defeating Lewis at home in the Saturday afternoon contest, 11-10. The victory came via a late free-position goal by Albrecht, who totaled six scores overall.

The Bearcats held the lead early and did not let up, scoring two in the first and second quarters, leading 4-3 at the half. McKendree then put up four more in the third and fired three in the final quarter, taking the contest.

Five players scored for McKendree during the win, as Julian (2), Barnden (1), Sugarman (1), and defender Lauren Fischer (1), all trailed Albrecht (6).
