MORGANTOWN, W.V. - McKendree University women's water polo added three more wins to their 2023 record after a three-game weekend outing in Morgantown, W.V. The Bearcats defeated Western Water Polo Association league opponents Salem University, Gannon University, and Mercyhurst University to improve their record to 15-8 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
McKendree began the weekend with a 12-9 victory against Salem as the Bearcats were led in scoring by fifth-year senior center Abigail Burton and graduate student attacker Jaleh Moaddeli with four goals apiece and combined for five steals. Moaddeli also dished four assists for McKendree. Defensively, fifth-year senior center Danielle Borelli snagged five steals in addition to three steals from senior attacker Courtney Smith. In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Kane collected 12 saves.
Against Gannon, Burton led the offensive charge, netting six of the Bearcats' 17 goals in the 17-8 win. Borelli added three goals while Moaddeli tallied four assists and four steals senior utility player Katelyn Rodrigue delivered three assists. Kane spent the full 32 minutes in the net for the Bearcats and tallied seven saves.
McKendree extended its win streak to seven over Mercyhurst with a final score of 11-8. Three Bearcats scored two goals or more including Borelli with three in addition to Moaddeli and Burton with two goals each. Burton also recorded four steals along with three steals from Borelli. Kane grabbed eight saves for McKendree at the goal.
Coming up, McKendree is set to host the WWPA Championships next weekend on April 28-30 at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
