Softball Splits Home Doubleheader Against Miners

Bearcats Honor Three Seniors for Senior Day

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University softball split its doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Miners in the first game 6-1 and falling in the second game 2-1. The Bearcats moved to 24-12 overall and 11-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  

In game one, junior Ellie Quaethem tossed a complete game in the circle, striking out 12 batters and allowing five hits. At the plate, McKendree earned its first run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly by senior utility player Olivia Stansbury. In the third inning, freshman infielder Lauren Harris hit a double for her first two RBI, then hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to add two more RBI in the fifth inning. Freshman Macy Brown pinch-hit in the sixth inning and rounded out McKendree's scoring with an RBI single.  

In the second game, McKendree was held to just one run and two hits. Sophomore outfielder Heaven Lawrence began the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Harris. Missouri S&T's Hannah Antzoulat hit a two-run shot in the third inning to give the Miners the 2-1 advantage. Junior Sophia Koesterer started in the circle for the Bearcats, pitching five innings and striking out two batters. Quaethem finished the last two innings and delivered four more strikeouts on the day.  

McKendree also honored three players for Senior Day including Morgan Andrews, Skyler Davis, and Jessica Poirot.  

Coming up, McKendree is back at home on Sunday, April 23 for another GLVC doubleheader against Drury University starting at 12 p.m.
