ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University women's and men's swimming and diving volunteered at the eighth annual Swim Across America event held at Alpine Lake in St. Louis in August 26. Swim Across American is a non-profit organization which raises money for cancer treatment, research, and prevention.  

At the St. Louis event, over 500 swimmers, volunteers, spectators, and special guests were in attendance to help "Make Waves to Fight Cancer." The charity project earned nearly $300,000 in total.  

Team McKendree, comprised of members of the Bearcat swimming and diving programs, raised over $10,000 for the cause. McKendree head coach Jimmy Tierney serves on the Swim Across America Board and received the Swim Across American Service Award in 2019.
