Men's Soccer Outlasts Cedarville With Three Second-Half Scores

Moore, Davies, and Davis net goals as Bearcats win back-to-back contests

CEDARVILLE, Ohio | Yellow Jacket Soccer Complex - McKendree University men's soccer (2-0-0) fired three second-half goals, outlasting the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville on Saturday afternoon, 3-2. The Bearcats completed a second-straight unbeaten opening weekend with the performance as sophomore forward Chris Moore and freshman forward Bryce Davis each made career-first scores while sophomore midfielder Rhys Davies scored in a second-straight game. McKendree is back on the road for its next contest at Christian Brothers on September 8 and then battling Northeastern State on September 10.

The first 45 minutes of play between the Bearcats and Jackets was a nearly null outing as there were just four total shots, three total corners, and one on-frame attempt.

In the second half, both squads broke out their offensive gameplans with McKendree striking first in the 48th minute as Moore scored his first collegiate goal on a dish-out by freshman midfielder Jay Sangha. The Bearcats led 1-0 for a short time before Cedarville leveled the contest at 1-1 in the 56th. McKendree took the lead for the final time in the 61st behind an unassisted goal by Davies, his second of the season.

The Bearcats managed to add what was an insurance score in the 77th minute as Davis blasted the goal off an assist by freshman defender Bailey Winchurch. Davis' goal would turn into the game-winner after the Yellow Jackets scored in the 88th minute to cut the lead to just one.

McKendree's defense held strong as the Bearcats and freshman goalkeeper Christian Herluf improved to 2-0-0 on the young season. Herluf grabbed six saves in the victory during his full-time in goal.

NOTES
McKendree went 2-0-0 in its season-opening Ohio road trip for a second-straight season, beating ODU on Thursday evening and Cedarville on Saturday afternoon. In 2022, the Bearcats beat out ODU and then-No.15 Lake Erie to begin their fall campaign.

It was another day of firsts for the Bearcat attack as two forwards scored their first collegiate goals with sophomore Chris Moore and freshman Bryce Davis both finding the back of the net.

Freshman defender Bailey Winchurch dished-out his first assist in the win while freshman midfielder Jay Sangha sent out his second assist in his second collegiate game.

Sophomore midfielder Rhys Davies blasted another score during the victory, marking back-to-back scores and his second collegiate goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Christian Herluf added his second win in goal, grabbing six saves during the outing.

UP NEXT
McKendree heads off to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Christian Brothers on September 8 at 7:30 PM before playing Northeastern State in a neutral site game at CBU on September 10 at 1 PM.
