LEBANON, Ill. – Mckendree University men's water polo prepares for the Salem Invitational in Morgantown, W.Va. this coming weekend, Sept. 23-24. The Bearcats look to snag their first wins of the season in the two-day event.
The Bearcats kick off the weekend with an 11:45 a.m. match against Penn State Behrend College. With the last match up between these teams in 2018, the Bearcats plan to add to their 3-0 all-time record against Penn State Behrend. The Lions are off to a 3-4 start on the season with wins over Cal Tech (1-6), Wheaton (Mass.) (1-0), and Connecticut Col (10-9).
McKendree jumps back in the pool Saturday evening to face Mount St. Mary's University (Md.), who holds a 2-5 record on the year and are 0-1 in conference play. The Bearcats competed against Mountaineers twice last fall including a tightly contested 11-10 Mount St. Mary's win.
Sunday holds two more games for the Bearcats, leading off with an 8 a.m. contest against the United States Naval Academy Midshipmen. Navy has collected a 6-3 record so far with wins over Cal State Fullerton (7-5), Biola (2-7), Long Beach State (8-2), Santa Clara (4-3), Chapman (0-5), and the Air Force Academy (7-6).
The final match of the weekend for the Bearcats comes against 1-5 Washington and Jefferson College, a familiar foe to McKendree as they have played six times since 2018. Winning all six matches, the Bearcats look to close out their weekend with continued success against the Presidents.
Following this weekend's four games in Morgantown, W.Va., the Bearcats will travel to California for their first conference matchup of the season against Biola University.
